Remember when I told you that this framing crew works fast? Well, now they're just showing off. Part of the speed comes from the way that we're framing the house, and part is that they're just extremely efficient. You can always tell when a crew has worked together for a while. It's like watching a ballet or an NBA game - they all know who's doing what when, and can anticipate how they can help each other.

Last week we saw that the wood was delivered. This week, our first floor deck gets installed. In the pic above, you can see a 2x4 stud wall inside the foundation wall, and the open web trusses sitting on top of them. This detail is called a reverse ledge (more on that later).
The forms for the foundation walls are off, and the garage slab is poured, which means as far as the house goes, we are done with concrete. Here, check it out:
The forms for the second pour on the foundation walls went up, and that concrete went in. Then the basement slab got poured, so we can officially walk on something other than dirt!!! Huge milestone.
I haven’t written about happiness here in a while. This particular moment in my life is the perfect time to change that. Happiness is a practice - you need to work at it every day, especially when life gets complicated. Right now, my life is complicated.
The forms are off! You can still see the rebar sticking out from the top of the foundation wall like we saw last time. Once we're ready for the second foundation wall pour, the rebar will end up covered.
It's pretty cool to see the house starting to come out of the ground. The footers are now dry enough, so the foundation wall forms were set in place and the concrete was poured.
We are officially under construction! Pancake and I are standing in what will eventually be our yard - it will be 4 feet lower when we're done, but for now, it's a great perch to watch the progress from.
If there’s dirt, and an opportunity to run, my kids are there. They loved running around the excavated lot. For a bit of foreshadowing, they're running around our eventual basement in the picture above.
The trees are out, and it's starting to look like there could actually be a house here one day! Things are happening a lot faster now, let me walk you through what we're looking at.
