This is almost, kind of, looking like a house

Remember when I told you that this framing crew works fast?  Well, now they're just showing off.  Part of the speed comes from the way that we're framing the house, and part is that they're just extremely efficient.  You can always tell when a crew has worked together for a while.  It's like watching a ballet or an NBA game - they all know who's doing what when, and can anticipate how they can help each other.

That's our driveway and garage!!!  You can also see the open web truss that we discussed a couple of weeks ago.  Here's a look from the other side:

That was the end of day 1 - they got the garage framed and installed the floor trusses for the second floor above it.  I was not prepared for how much progress would happen by the end of framing day 2:

Let's check this out:

WHAT?!  It's a house!!!  Or, at least the entire first floor of a house.  Here's how the framing relates to what will be inside:
Picture
From left to right:
  • The dashed white lines are the outline of what will be a double height space in our living area
  • The dark blue windows are in the stairwell
  • The magenta is our door
  • The light blue is the powder room window
  • The green is the garage window
(that was our first exterior house tour, btw :D )

Notice the giant pile of wood sitting outside the garage?  That will be our second floor framing.  We aren't framing this house in the "traditional" way - have a bunch of lumber delivered to the site and cut each individual piece one at a time, then nail it into place - rinse and repeat.

The walls were built in a warehouse as panels and then delivered to the site.  So the framing crew needs to coordinate and assemble the individual pieces according to a framing plan.  It's essentially like a grown up, real world, very expensive LEGO kit - I knew all those years playing with blocks would pay off.

Bye for now,
TJ
