Are you raising an aspiring architect?

Kids have access to all kinds of interesting after-school activities - they can learn about art, gymnastics, coding, chess, karate, and lots of other cool things.  Why isn't architecture one of those options?!  Now it is.

Welcome to Studio DH, Designed Happy's take on an after-school activity where kids can learn about architecture and design.

Studio DH is modeled after a collegiate architecture program, often called Studio (fun fact: not only did TJ attend architecture school at CUA, he also taught architecture there).  We've taken the best parts of Studio (iterative process, design thinking, public speaking) and used them to create this class.  We've left the not-so-great parts (crazy workload, high-stress, all-nighters) for the college students.

Studio DH is split into 2 semesters - one in the fall and one in the spring.  The specifics of each semester will change, but our overarching goals will remain the same.  By the end of each semester your child will:

learn about design and architecture

Each week, your child will learn about one specific aspect of design or architecture that they will be able to apply to their semester's long project.

learn how to solve problems like an architect

Design Thinking has been all the rage in tech startups, but it's been a part of architecture  forever.  Your child will learn design thinking through practical problem solving, focused strategy,  and design ideation.

have more self-confidence

Part of architecture school is getting in front of a group of people and talking about your ideas.  Sometimes that group is full of classmates ready to help you work through a tough design challenge.  Sometimes that group is made up of strangers watching your final design presentation.  Your child will learn the art of persuasive presentation, both on an individual level and a group level, and all in a safe and encouraging environment.

Studio DH is open to kids in grades 3-7, and is held from 5-6pm at our office in Kensington.
