Do people write love letters to houses? No? Well, they should. Pancake and I have decided to list our 1923 farmhouse. Our first home. The fixer-upper we bought in as-is condition. The beater that happened to be in a great school district, in a great neighborhood, on a great street, with great neighbors. It was the best location we could afford, and the house had just enough old charm left in it to keep it out of a landfill.

Are you ready for the first ever look at the second floor??? Before we get there, be sure to check out the first floor and the basement if you haven't already. Just like in those tours, we'll start with an Image Location Plan.
It's been awhile since I've written about food (or a drink in this case), so I figured this was an excellent time to change that -- summer is winding down, and here's the perfect way to end it:
I haven’t written about happiness here in a while. This particular moment in my life is the perfect time to change that. Happiness is a practice - you need to work at it every day, especially when life gets complicated. Right now, my life is complicated.
Pretty descriptive title, right? Well whether you’re looking to build a house on your new land, a new family room addition, remodel a kitchen, or repair an old porch, you have options. And those options are largely dependent on the type of thing you are building.
Big news!
Every year, Professional Remodeler conducts a national search for 40 remodeling professionals under the age of 40 who are blazing new trails in our industry. I'm incredibly honored to share the news that, this year, I am one of those 40 people. Here is a link to the list of 40: So its been a while since my last post. Quite a bit has happened, which has kept me rather busy. Last you read, we put our house on the market. Well as it turns out, it wasn't on the market for very long.
I recently moved to a different office in our suite, and being the kind of person who likes to put my stamp on things, I took this as an opportunity to have some fun. In this post, I'll show you the before and after of my office and then provide links so you can Steal This Look (because I'm nice like that).
Welcome to DesignedHappy.com, my little corner of the webishpere (that's a word, right?).
I touched a bit on why this page exists here, but seeing as how positivity and happiness will be an underlying theme of everything on this site, I thought this would be a good time to tell you a little bit more about how I got here... I started researching positive psychology in late 2011, while Pancake was pregnant with Stinky Face. I wanted to be a happier, more content person so I could teach my kid happy habits, instead of always finding the negative in a situation like I did. While I was googling how to be happier, I came across a Ted talk that would prove to be my springboard. The speaker is Shawn Achor, and the talk is titled, The Happiness Advantage. Since I'm super nice, and part of being a happier and more positive person is practicing conscience acts of kindness, I will embed the video here for your convenience: |
