POP ON OVER FOR A PEEK INSIDE - 3 OF 3

Are you ready for the first ever look at the second floor???  Before we get there, be sure to check out the first floor and the basement if you haven't already.  Just like in those tours, we'll start with an Image Location Plan.

Now that you're oriented, let's check out the pics!

1 - At the top of the stairs, you look into the 2-story space and back down to the living area

3 - Turn around at the top of the stairs and look back toward the bedrooms

There are 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a laundry room upstairs, but the only thing you really see from the perspective above are 3 cased openings.  Here, check out the next pic:

4 - The cased openings create alcoves to hide the doors

You know how in most houses, when you get to the second floor, there's a hallway with a bunch of doors?  Turns out, Pancake doesn't like living that way - she doesn't like seeing all of the doors.  So when designing the plan for our second floor, we needed to find a way to have doors, but for them to kind of just go away.  

Scroll back up to the Image Location Plan and look at how the 2-story space aligns with the hallway at the top of the stairs.  I'll wait while you look.....

Did you see it?  Here's another plan to emphasize what I'm talking about:

The wall that defines the hallway is the same wall that defines the 2-story space.  Everything in the yellow rectangle is experienced as one volume.  The alcoves are outside of that volume, so they (and the doors they provide access to) disappear.  Cool, right?  Back to the tour...

5 - Stinky Face's room. On the right side of the pic is the door to her room. You can see out into the alcove, and through the door into the lounge (and beyond, which is a story for another post)

6 - The lounge is an important room for us - we'll hang out in here before the kiddos go to bed. This will also double as our guest room.

7 - Monkey's room. What you're seeing on the left is what I mentioned earlier about a story for another post - stay tuned...

8 - Another alcove. This one has access to the laundry and the master suite

9 - Master bedroom. We've never had a suite before, so this will be a new experience for us. It will be nice to not share a bathroom with the kids for once :D

10 - Pancake teleworks a bunch, so we needed a quiet place for her to do that. We thought an office in the suite would be perfect!

11 - Master bathroom. There's a lot going on in here. It will need its own post too...

12 - Every morning when Pancake and I leave our master suite, this is what we will see. We are so lucky..........and so impatient ----we want to live here!!
