Is Lil' Jon our greatest living poet? Perhaps. He certainly helped with the title for this blog post. As you can see, the windows are installed!!! That means we're one step closer to being weather tight. In the header image, you can also see the double height windows in the family room (although, as we saw in the video from last week, they aren't so much rooms as they are spaces, or areas). Since the house is narrow and long, we felt like we needed something to break up the horizontality of the facade, which was one of the reasons for the double height space - it allowed us to stack windows to provide a vertical element, which made for a more interesting composition. The windows are black casements (the kind that crank out, not slide up) with no grills. We debated whether or not we should have window panes, but opted for the cleaner look without them - we're going for a sort of functional minimalism. Once the window trim (coming soon) and siding (coming later) are installed, those black windows are going to pop!! Can't wait.
