A couple months back, we toured our nursery in the first ever Designed Happy house tour. Now that Pancake and I have decided to sell our house, there may not be much time left for additional tours (insert sad face emoji here). As such, I wanted to give you a tour of our modern take on a traditional farmhouse kitchen. First things first, let's take a look at the old and new kitchen plans: There were a few things we wanted to accomplish with the space plan for the kitchen:
From the old to new plans, you can see that the appliances didn't move much. Really, the sink moving a few inches to the left was the only location change we made. We did make the window above the sink smaller though. That allowed us to add an extra wall cabinet to the left of the range. We also opened the wall between the kitchen and dining room, which allowed us to add a large island. When we were done, we went from 9 cabinets in the old design to 15 cabinets in the new design - all in the same amount of space. Cheers to efficiency! Would you like to see some before and after pictures? I thought you might. Let's start with a few pics of the old kitchen: Not great right? It needed some love. As you can see, it was a dark, private, inefficient space. The cabinets, counters, appliances, lighting, flooring, and windows were all trash. It was a total gut. Here's how it looks now: Pretty great, right? Thanks, I think so too. Here's a rundown of what we're looking at/what changed:
Sometimes I look back at the old pictures of the kitchen and have a hard time believing that it actually existed. Our old farmhouse deserved a better kitchen than it had, and I'm so happy that Pancake and I were able to create one for it. If you're interested in finding the kitchen your house is destined to have, I'd be happy to help. Bye for now. TJ
